Build a 72-Hour Emergency Kit

Build a 72-Hour Emergency Kit

When disaster hits, stores close, power goes out, and help may take days to arrive. A 72-hour emergency kit gives you freedom, control, and time to react. Think of it as your survival jump-start — whether you’re evacuating or hunkering down.

What to pack (Go-Bag Essentials)

  • Water: 3 litres per person per day (minimum)
  • Food: Ready-to-eat items (energy bars, canned goods, dried snacks)
  • Light: Flashlight + lantern + extra batteries
  • Power: Phone charger + power bank
  • First aid: Basic kit, medications, personal prescriptions
  • Safety: N95 mask, work gloves, whistle, multipurpose tool
  • Hygiene: Wipes, sanitizer, small toiletries, tissue
  • Documents: ID copies, emergency contacts, insurance info
  • Cash: Small bills (ATMs may be down)
  • Extras: Pet supplies, baby needs, and seasonal items

Home Emergency Supplies (Shelter-in-Place)

Stock at least 3 days, ideally 7–14, of:

  • Bulk water
  • Non-perishable food
  • Manual can opener
  • Radio (battery or crank)
  • Warm blankets
  • Trash bags & duct tape

Quick Tip

Build it in layers: Home kit → Go-bag → Car kit (mini version).

Next step: Pick a backpack or bin today, start with 5 items, and finish over a week. Action beats intention.
